Are you planning a nautical baby shower?

Nothing says nautical like a “Dark and Stormy” cocktail! You’ll be called clever for serving this drink alongside a pasta and crab salad or mango and pineapple chicken salad.
Alcoholic version - A classic Dark and Stormy recipe:
  • 2 ounces Goslings Black Seal Dark rum
  • 3 ounces ginger beer
  • ½ ounce lime juice
Mix together and pour over ice for a single serving. Use any dark rum, and you call it a “Safe Harbor.”
Non-alcoholic version- To create a non-alcoholic version for the mama to be and others, replace the rum with vanilla syrup. Bring 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water to boil in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook until the sugar has dissolved. Cool. Add 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract.
If you want to go renegade, try this fun fig Dark and Stormy to be the talk of the town!

This recipe comes from Half Baked Harvest
  • 1 tablespoon fig preserves
  • 2 ounces dark rum or bourbon (Remember for non-alcoholic use vanilla syrup)
  • Juice of ½ a lemon
  • 3 ounces ginger beer
  • Fresh figs and thyme for servings
In a cocktail shaker, combine the fig preserves, bourbon, and lemon juice. Shake to combine.

Strain into a glass filled with ice. Top off with ginger beer and garnish with fresh figs and thyme.

Have nautical baby rompers on hand!

A Sunday brunch shower calls for spiked lemonade definitely, but here’s twist for the summer when you can find fresh organic cucumbers!
    Non-Alcoholic version – Cucumber Lemonade
    • 1 cup water
    • ½ cup sugar
    • 1 cucumber sliced
    • 6 lemons juiced
Make a simple syrup by stirring the water and sugar together in a saucepan over medium heat; heat until just about to boil and the sugar has dissolved. Place in refrigerator 30 minutes, or until cool.

Place the cucumber slices in a blender or food processor; blend until mashed into a pulp. Pour the cucumber pulp into a fine mesh strainer place over a bowl to catch the liquid; allow to sit until you have about 2/3 cup of liquid from the cucumber, about 15 minutes.

Stir the simple syrup, cucumber liquid, and lemon juice together in a pitcher. Serve cold. (From AllRecipes.com)

For the alcoholic version, add your favorite vodka to taste, or if you can find it - Inverroche Gin from South Africa. Serve with fresh garden or fruit salad, scallion scones, and eggs any style.

Have some lemon rompers on display!
